Ryuko Tokimatsu another disappointment on losing the playoff for the 3rd time in 3 chances
"My putting didn't help me today, that is the reason for my defeat."
Ryuko couldn't give him the chances with his shots either. He made birdies on 2nd and 5th, but after that he was just saving Pars.
By the time he got to 9th, Ryosuke caught up with him. Then on 11th, he gave away the lead, and at one point he was 3 strokes behind Ryosuke, who was on Sunday charge with multiple birdies.
Ryoko showed great battle with persistence and made 3 straight birdies from 16th to catch up with Ryosuke to total as 25 under, the record tie score which Ryuko was the title holder of. He managed to force Ryosuke not to take away the trophy easily.
Ryuko and Ryosuke returned to the 18th for the extra hole.
"I didn't think about it at that time, but I believe I have lost in every playoffs I played."
Ryuko's 3rd shot was from several yard front of the green was tough one to decide.
"The lie of the ball was on the edge of roughs. I couldn't decide if the ball will spin or not. I knew that Par won't be enough to win, so I aimed the precise dropping point, but I was 5 yards short and it didn't get up on the same level as the flag."
He had to try for 15-meter up slope birdie try.
"That was a putt you could may be make once if you had 100 tries."
Ryuko lost for 3 times on the playoffs, following the losses in 2017 and 2019 ANA Open.
"I think I wasn't playing well enough before the playoffs. I need more distance and need to brush up on my shot making and short game technics. I also didn't make the critical putts today. So, I think I need to be better in every angle. I will keep on trying to become better player. Ryosuke's score of 62 on Sunday was more than great. His technics on short game and the putt he made on the extra hole was magnificent."
Ryuko is such a humble guy, he praised the winner as he always does. He would never be a sore loser.
