Rookie Taisei Shimizu makes miraculous birdie charge to score 10 under 62 on moving Saturday
Taisei tee offed from 10th tee, so called "back alley" starts.
"I have been having difficulties with my putting. At first it was just 1 ball width slid by, then a 360. It just didn't go in. I was really frustrated but tried to control my patience. I told myself it will start to fall in eventually. And when it does start to fall in, I will get my chances. So, I waited."
His wish was granted on his back nine. He made 6-meter on 2nd hole. Then he went on to make 6 straight birdies. 6-meter, 1-meter, down slope 5-meter, 80cm, 5-meter birdie putts all found the bottom of the hole. His closing hole was even better, he made an eagle on Par 4 9th, as he made 20 yards shot with his 60 degrees wedge which got swallowed into the cup.
2 birdies on his front half and 6 birdies and an eagle on his back nine totaled to 10 under for the day, making Taisei rocket fly to 5T, 5 shots behind the leader.
Taisei finished 5th on the special QT last December and turned Pro. He has been challenging the professional tournaments while he was still a student in Nippon University. He is believed to be one of most talented Rookie.
Leader Ryuko Tokimatsu is Taisei's brotherly figure as they learned under same coach back in their hometown Fukuoka Prefecture. Taisei admires Ryuko for his success with 3 victories and also his leadership as Players Chairman.
"I know he is really busy with the Players Chairman jobs, but still, he battles strongly as leader going onto Sunday. I really admire him so much."
When Taisei holed out, margin between Ryuko was 7 strokes.
"I will try my best to challenge catching up to him by making birdie charges like today."
Ryuko unfortunately made double bogey on 16, so now the deficit is only 5 shots for Taisei. Taisei knows that he shouldn't hold back at all, and go for his chance to grab V1.
