Dunlop SRIXON Fukushima Open 2021

Ruiichi Oiwa desperate for a victory and says "2nd place is meaningless"

Ryuichi Oiwa has been playing well since this year's opening event. His results are 4T, 7T, 3T, and 3T for the tournament which he has made the CUT.

Today, on his R2 at Fukushima Open, he marked bogey free round with 8 birdies to jump up to 2nd place. His position is provisionally since many players were not able to hole out due to suspension but still, he has a great chance for the victory he desperately craves. He thinks it about time that he will get his dream come true.

This is Ryuichi's 3rd year as a professional. He seems to safely secure his first Tour Card as he sits at 15th on the Money Rankings now. But still, he played last week on the minor's Abema TV Tour tournament, Japan Create Challenge, as the Regular Tour was be off week.
"I just wanted to play on that tournament too, and I haven't won on that minor Tour either. I did finish 2nd but being 2nd doesn't mark any record. It's meaningless."

Eventually he finished at 19th on that tournament. He was astonished to see Ryo Hisatsune mark 61 on R2 at that tournament and was motivated more than ever.
"I will challenge that tournament again next year. I will continue to challenge until I win it. There are experiences and atmosphere that you could only learn from the tournament. Feeling of making the critical shots and putts, is only achieved through tournaments. So, I will go anywhere to achieve more experiences."

If he wins on the Regular Tour, he will automatically be removed from the minor Abema TV Tours.
"Well. If that's the case, I'm okay with it."

Ryuichi self-destructed his chance for the victory at Japan Players Championship by Sato Shokuhin in May to same age rival Naoyuki Kataoka. Ryuichi says he still is suffering from nightmares about that tournament. After he lost to Ryosuke Kinishita with a big margin on Japan Golf Tour Championship, he turned for help from his coach since high school days.
"I know when I get mentally break down from pressure my swing loses control. Also, when I make unpredictable mistakes, I get emotionally disrupted and overreact. From there everything crumbles. So, I must learn to keep my mental state calm and keep my routine. I must be able to keep my rhythm in any circumstances."
He is working on to build his game to win. The 23 years old has gained 2cm in height this year, so he is literary growing, but he is also making a big growth in his game.
