13-year professional Suzuchiyo Ishida marks 5 under with bouncing back from trouble
"I practiced mt fade ball during the stay home period, but today I was making miss shots from the practice range. Eventually my tee shot went way left and almost got caught in the water but suffered bogey. Then soon after on 14th, I did get caught in the water for another bogey. I hanged in there by 1-putting for bogey, but I was in terrible condition."
Then he suddenly shifted his swing to draw ball, then he gave himself many birdie chances.
"After I made a birdie on 15th, birdie chances just kept coming after another."
He made 4 straight birdies from 1st to 4th, made 2-meter on 7th, and finished his round by making 5-meter on 9th for score of 67. Pretty good for rough start, his name was among the top players in the morning group with 5 under Par.
His grandfather is Suzumatsu, and his father is Suzuharu. In his family the eldest son is given "Suzu" in their names. Bottom portion of his name "chiyo" is from the phrase "Chiyo ni Yachiyo ni" which is the lyrics from the Japanese National Anthem, and it means "everlastingly and eternally".
"I was given the name to prosper eternally, and fortunately I was blessed with a son last July who I named Suzuchika, so the Suzu names are safely inherited."
Suzuchiyo was fond of basketball until his junior high school days but chose to go to the high school with a golf team, since his father loves golf and wanted to make dad happy.
He turned Pro in 2008 and have been struggling to even achieve the chance to play on the Tour tournaments.
"But as a father now, I want to do my best for my son", smiled Suzuchiyo with confidence.
