GOLF PARTNER PRO-AM TOURNAMENT 2021
"New in Japan, but I am used to this format back home." Shaun Norris grabs his 1st season win
Shaun started out at 6th, 5 shots behind the leader. He made a great 3 straight birdie start and got on the roll to pursuit. Shaun rejoined prolonged 20-21 season from this years opening tournament Token Homemate Cup. He did appear at US Open and PGA Championship last year, but for his game in Japan, he has been away for 18 months. He was figuring out his game for a while, but on his 6th tournament, Shaun got his feeling back and commented "my shots and putts are perfect".
This Pro-Am formant is very new to Japan Tour, but "in my home country 78% of the tournaments are this format. I have won once in one of them".
Shaun made 5-meter eagle on the 10th and took the lead. Then on 17th, he drained the 3-meter birdie chance to finish his round at total 21 under. As Tomoharu Ostuki bogeyed the final 18th, the tournament was extended to a play off by Shaun Norris, Scott Vincent and Tomoharu Otsuki.
Shaun said, "I felt I had advantage against the other two", as he has experienced 2019 ANA Open's 5-way playoff. As Shaun assumed, he won the tournament on his 2nd extra holes.
This week, Shaun was on his own pushing electric cart, since his trusty young brother was ill and couldn't carry the bag.
"I wish my brother was here with me to celebrate."
Shaun's eyes were watery after he made the winning putt.
Shaun also appreciated for the offer by Rahil Gangjee's caddy to carry the bag for the playoffs.
"Caddy of my good friend Rahil Gangjee offered to carry for me. I want to invite him to dinner later."
Shaun has turned 39 on May 14th, but due to the pandemic, his family are not allowed to visit. He must also celebrate this victory with his friends and family a bit later.
"I wasn't able to come to Japan Tour last year so I am way down on the Money Race, but I will fight on hard to catch up. I want to win at least 2 more this season."
Shaun was the runner-up for the Order of Merit race to Shugo Imahira both in 2018 and 2019. With this win, Shaun's battle for the revenge swing into full gear.
