A brilliant Taehoon Ok bagged two eagles en route to seizing a share of the first-round clubhouse lead at the weather-hit SMBC Singapore Open on Thursday.

Ok, 23, also registered three birdies and two bogeys for a five-under-par 66 on the Serapong course of the Sentosa Golf Club where he and Thailand's Suradit Yangcharoenchai were a shot clear of a group that included JGTO member Justin De Los Santos.

Ok was pleased to have put the last week's disappointment behind him having missed the cut at the Singapore International.

"The last tournament didn’t go too well so I was feeling a bit anxious," said Ok, who's making his SMBC Singapore Open debut this week.

"But after not making the cut last week I’ve been practicing a lot so think I’ve improved and have gotten the hang of it.

Ok's effort was matched by Thailand's Yangcharoenchai, who impressed with a flawless scorecard containing five birdies.

"I was really focused out there today. I’m happy to have played well as I made several good tee shots and my putting was okay too,” said Suradit.

World No. 27 Paul Casey, the highest-ranked player in the field and runner-up in 2019, is in danger of missing the cut after bogeying six times for a dismal five-over-par 76.

Dongkyu Jang was the second best-performing JGTO member of the day after carding a 68 to be tied for sixth.

Japanese quartet Yuwa Kosaihira, Masanori Kobayahi, Shunya Takeyasu and Kaito Onishi all enjoyed a solid too by signing for 69s to stay three shots off the pace.

A total of 52 players have not finished their round no thanks to the lightning threat which forced the organisers to call it a day at 5.50pm local time.

The first round will resume at 7.30am on Friday.
