Abema Tour 2022 season tees off
The 2022 Abema Tour season tees off today with the Novil Cup set to raise the curtains on yet another exciting season where professionals seek their breakthrough or chase for more glory on the JGTO’s secondary circuit.
A total of 13 events offering ¥211,000,000 in total prize money has been confirmed for the
2022 season. Starting with the season-opener Novil Cup at J Classic Golf Club in Tokushima prefecture, the Abema Tour will next head to Fukuoka prefecture for the I Golf Shaper Challenge in Chikushigaoka in April.
The Taiheiyo Club will play host to the Taiheiyo Club Challenge Tournament in May before a three-week run of events beginning with the Landic Challenge 9, followed by Japan Create Challenge in FukuokaRaizan and Daisendori Cup provide players with more playing opportunities in June.
The Minami Akita Country Club Michinoku Challenge Tournament then returns to the Minamiakita Country Club in Akita prefecture in July. A consecutive run of four events in September commences with the DUNLOP PHOENIX tournament challenge in Fukushima which will make its debut on the Abema Tour. PGM Challenge, ISPS HANDA Hero ni nare! Challenge Tournament and elite grips challenge round up the next three events.
The ISPS HANDA Hero ni nare! Challenge Tournament was one of the three events that Ryo Hisatsune won during the 2020/2021 Abema Tour season apart from the Japan Create Challenge in FukuokaRaizan and Minami Akita Country Club Michinoku Challenge Tournament. Those three victories played a pivotal role in seeing Hisatsune top the Abema Tour money list in the 2020/2021 with earnings of over ¥10 million.
The season will conclude with the Ryo Ishikawa everyone PROJECT Challenge followed by the Delight Works JGTO FINAL in October. Players who finish inside the top-20 on the money list will earn their main JGTO cards in 2023.
Australia’s Adam Burdett, who posted an opening one-under-par 71 at the Novil Cup, is excited to be back in Japan to compete on the Abema Tour, setting his sights on being amongst the top 20 players on the money list, come October.
“I’m so glad to be back in Japan. I love the food, the culture and the people. But more importantly, I’m happy to be back playing golf here and I really hope to do well and get that main JGTO card at the end of the year,” said the 27-year-old Australian.
