Quayle denied outright lead, rues costly double bogey at the last​

JGTO member Anthony Quayle of Australia missed the opportunity to snatch the outright lead in the penultimate round of the Shinhan Donghae Open after carding a double bogey on his closing 18th hole on Saturday.

The 29-year-old trails third round leaders Richard T. Lee of Canada and South Korean Guntaek Koh by one shot in a share of third place with overnight leader Wooyoung Cho of South Korea after signing for a five-under- par 67.

Quayle got off to a strong start with birdies in his opening two holes. He was tied for the lead with Cho after nine holes when he reached the turn in 31.

The Australian, who is searching for his maiden JGTO breakthrough, then took over the outright lead with a birdie on 11 and stayed in that position under disaster struck at the last where his third shot found the front bunker.

He then three putted, missing a three-footer to compile a three-day total of 14-under-par 202.

“I played pretty well,” said Quayle.

“I didn’t put a foot wrong until the last. Me and the last hole haven’t got on to well so far. Hopefully if it comes down to it, it will be a bit more friendly tomorrow.

“Everything feels really good. I don’t feel like it’s been a week when I have really milked it. I feel like I have played quite solid. I have holed a couple I probably shouldn’t have, and I have missed a couple I feel like I should have made. I feel like the score is reflective of how I played. I have a chance on a Sunday, which is nice.”

“A couple of those close finishes [on the JGTO] have been mistakes on my part, and a couple of them have been other people better on the day. But I feel I have learned a lot and how to get the best out of those situations. Some of those lessons will come in handy tomorrow.”

Ryuko Tokimatsu is the leading Japanese in tied-sixth place after he returned with a 66 while Keita Nakajima is a further shot back in tied-ninth place.
