Hirata leads as Fujisankei Classic reduces to 54-hole tournament

Inclement weather has forced the Fujisankei Classic to be reduced to a 54-hole tournament as persistent rain throughout the week continued to affect the tournament.

Round two, where only six players managed to tee off on Friday afternoon, resumed early Saturday morning.

However, it had to be suspended multiple times due to unfavourable weather conditions.

It is scheduled to resume at 8am local time with the third round starting at 11am on Sunday.

Kensei Hirata holds the clubhouse lead after signing for a seven-under-par 67 and two-day total of nine-under-par 131.

Yusaku Hosono is two shots back of Hirata as he is seven-under through 13 holes.

South Africa’s Shaun Norris is a further shot behind with the 42-year-old at six-under after 11 holes.

“The weather has been very unpredictable all week. But what’s important is I’m in the lead and got everything to play for when the tournament resumes tomorrow.

I’ll try my very best to play to my full potential,” said Hirata.
